Yelp’s “Make it Happen Day” Assists Texans in Updating their Homes and Businesses

24 Aug 2022

Extreme heat, drought, and numerous tornadoes have made life in Texas difficult this year. In addition, several well-known local businesses have been harmed by natural disasters such as the North Texas floods this week. Shortly after Winter Storm Uri in February 2021, Yelp declared the first “Make It Happen Day“.  After its massive success, the Company announced the second installment to take place on August 26th. A $100,000 fund will benefit local businesses like Houston’s Mico’s Hot Chicken as well as homeowners in need of emergency repairs.

Yelp teamed with Bobby Berk, a Houston native, design expert, and Emmy-nominated TV host. His show Queer Eye recently filmed its sixth season in Austin this year.

“Every small business has a history, and many of those have had it rough over the past few years between COVID, horrible storms and even fires,” says Bobby Berk. “Through the Make It Happen Day fund, we will bring the community together to make much-needed updates and repairs to our friends’ homes and small businesses.”

Win $1,000 for your Home Repairs

During “Make It Happen Day,” Texans can win $1,000 to put towards hiring home service professionals listed on Yelp. To enter for a chance to win, eligible Texans must use Yelp’s Request a Quote feature on August 26, 2022*. Users must locate a home service professional in their area, and then submit the quote at makeithappenday.yelp.com. To meet your needs, you can locate a wide variety of roofing, plumbing, heating, ventilation, flooring, contractors, and more.

Contributing to Local Businesses

As part of the day of action, five businesses in Texas will each receive $10,000 to make repairs and updates to their facilities. Many beloved community pillars have faced difficult circumstances such as break-ins, fires, and long-term COVID-19 effects. Texas French Bread, Ambur Fire, The Grill at Leon Springs, Humble: Simply Good Pies, and Mico’s Hot Chicken will benefit from the funds.
