Google Maps has added a new feature called “popular dishes” to restaurant listings in order to provide a way for customers to check out the most popular food and drinks before committing to a restaurant to eat. This feature will match a photo of a dish to corresponding reviews. Displayed in a carousel format, tapping on a photo of a menu item will allow the user to see what others have said about the specific dish. As Marketing Land details, with reviews being a large factor in the bottom line for the food and beverage industry, adding photos of the most reviewed dishes will help customers have an idea of what to expect before ordering. This feature is already available on Android devices and will be rolling out on IOS devices over the next few months.
