Tesla to Make HVAC Systems for Homes

25 Jul 2022

HVAC systems for homes are about to get smarter and more efficient, thanks to one of the most well-known names in technology. Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, is working on a “product list” that includes a smart and efficient HVAC system for homes.

When it comes to improving the air quality in its electric vehicles, Tesla has gone so far as to include a HEPA filter in the HVAC system of some of its higher-end models. Its efforts have been fruitful. Because of its small size (0.3 microns), the filter can theoretically remove 99.97 percent of dust, pollen, mold, and bacteria from the air. It is integrated into an efficient HVAC system to minimize any negative impact on the vehicle’s driving range.

Air conditioners and heat pumps are among the most energy-intensive home appliances, and their use is on the rise as temperatures soar across the globe, including in Texas, Tesla’s new home state.

According to Musk, the company’s long-term goals include reducing the amount of energy used by the HVAC system, incorporating a HEPA filter to improve air quality, and possibly even using a water purification system. The CEO also discussed making it a smart system that would only turn on when needed and even integrate it with its vehicles to turn on ahead of arriving at home.

However, it doesn’t appear that Tesla and especially CEO Elon Musk have been working on this for a long time. Let’s see if time will tell if this game-changing product will come into fruition.
