Angi Launches a ChatGPT App: What Home Service Marketers Should Know

What happens when a homeowner asks ChatGPT how much it costs to replace an HVAC system? Until recently, the answer was simply informational. Now, the conversation may end with an informed recommendation for a local contractor.

On March 4, 2026, Angi announced the launch of a new Angi app inside ChatGPT, allowing homeowners to move from asking a home improvement question to connecting with local service professionals in a single AI-driven experience.

This development is another sign that the home services discovery process is shifting. Instead of starting with Google searches or marketplace browsing, some homeowners are beginning with conversational AI.

For home service marketers, this raises an important question: How will AI platforms like ChatGPT influence how homeowners find and hire contractors?

Let’s take a closer look at how the new Angi ChatGPT app works, how homeowners use it, and what it may mean for contractors and marketing teams.

What Is the Angi ChatGPT App?

The Angi ChatGPT app allows homeowners to ask questions about home projects directly inside ChatGPT and receive guidance along with recommendations for local service professionals.

Instead of navigating multiple websites, users can start with natural questions such as:

  • How much does a new HVAC system cost?
  • Why is my water heater leaking?
  • Do I need an electrician to install a ceiling fan?

The AI then provides project guidance and suggests local professionals from Angi’s network.

When a homeowner chooses a recommendation or requests a quote, they are directed into Angi’s platform where the experience continues using Angi’s AI Helper.

This system helps translate a homeowner’s description of a problem into a structured service request that contractors can respond to.

In their recent press release announcing the launch of the app, Angi stated “This app enables homeowners to move from asking a home-improvement question in ChatGPT to connecting directly with a skilled pro on Angi. Angi is among the first home services marketplaces to offer an end-to-end, AI-guided hiring journey — from the initial homeowner question in ChatGPT to project scoping and matching with a skilled pro through Angi.”

Why This Matters for Home Service Marketing

The most important takeaway from this launch is that homeowners are starting projects differently. Compared to earlier decades, there are now more ways than ever to find and book a service.

According to Angi, more homeowners are now beginning their research by asking AI assistants what a project costs or how to fix a problem before searching for contractors.

That shift changes the early stage of the customer journey.

Instead of the traditional flow:

Google search → contractor website → quote request

We may begin to see more journeys that look like:

AI conversation → platform recommendation → contractor lead

For marketers in the home services industry, that means understanding how these AI platforms surface service providers will become increasingly important.

How to Access ChatGPT Apps

If you have not used ChatGPT apps before, they are tools that connect ChatGPT with external platforms or services.

Think of them as integrations that allow ChatGPT to perform actions or retrieve information from other companies’ systems.

To access apps inside ChatGPT:

  1. Open ChatGPT
  1. Click Apps in the sidebar
  1. Search for the app you want to use (for example, Angi)
  1. Connect the app
  1. Start asking questions related to that service

Once connected, ChatGPT can use the app to provide more specialized responses or connect users with the platform’s services.

Step-by-Step With Pictures: Using the Angi ChatGPT App

Below is an example of how a homeowner might use the new Angi integration. You can follow these steps yourself to understand the user experience.

Step 1: Open the Apps Panel in ChatGPT

Users begin by opening ChatGPT and selecting the Apps section. From there, they can search for the Angi app and connect it.

Step 2: Ask a Home Project Question

Once the app is connected, the user can begin asking questions like:

  • “Why is my AC blowing warm air?”
  • “How much does it cost to replace a water heater?”
  • “Who installs EV chargers in Phoenix?”

ChatGPT provides guidance and may surface Angi results.

Step 3: Review Recommended Service Providers

Based on the conversation, ChatGPT can recommend professionals from Angi’s network.

The user can then choose a contractor or request a quote.

Step 4: Continue the Process on Angi

When the user selects a recommendation, they are directed to Angi where the process continues using the company’s AI Helper

This system converts the conversation into a structured service request that contractors can respond to.

Angi’s AI Helper: Converting Conversations Into Leads

The ChatGPT app builds on Angi’s AI Helper, which launched in June 2025.

AI Helper allows homeowners to describe problems in a conversational way while the system translates that information into a structured request for contractors.

According to Angi data:

  • Users of AI Helper are three times more likely to request a quote compared to traditional browsing users.
  • Homeowners who start projects through AI Helper are 25 percent more likely to report successful project completion.

From Angi’s perspective, the goal is to move homeowners from curiosity to action faster.

Thumbtack Is Exploring AI Discovery Too

Angi is not the only home services marketplace experimenting with AI integrations.

Thumbtack launched its own ChatGPT app in October 2025, giving homeowners another way to discover service professionals through conversational AI.

While the platforms may approach the experience slightly differently, the underlying idea is similar. Homeowners can start with a question about a home project and be guided toward service professionals who can help.

As platforms like Angi and Thumbtack continue investing in AI tools, the early stages of project research may increasingly happen inside conversational interfaces rather than traditional search engines.

What This Means for Contractors and Marketers

Even though these tools are designed for homeowners, they continue to signal a broader trend that we’ve been reporting on at VIIRL. AI is becoming a starting point for service discovery.

For home service businesses, that means:

1. Visibility Beyond Search Engines

Contractors will need to think beyond traditional Google search rankings.

Marketplaces and AI tools may increasingly influence which companies homeowners discover first.

2. Structured Information Matters

AI tools rely heavily on structured information about services, locations, and reviews.

Businesses with strong digital profiles across platforms will be more likely to appear in AI-assisted recommendations.

3. Marketplaces Are Investing in AI Discovery

Platforms like Angi and Thumbtack are investing heavily in AI tools designed to capture homeowner demand earlier.

This could increase the importance of maintaining optimized profiles on these platforms.

The Bigger Trend: AI as the First Step in Home Services Discovery

For years, the starting point for most home service projects was Google search. Today, that starting point is expanding to include AI assistants.

Homeowners are asking conversational questions about repairs, pricing, and project planning before they ever visit a contractor’s website.

The launch of Angi’s ChatGPT app is one of the clearest examples yet of how marketplaces are adapting to that shift.

For contractors and marketers, understanding how homeowners discover service providers is becoming just as important as how they book them.

Staying Ahead of AI-Driven Home Services Marketing

As AI tools, marketplaces, and search platforms continue evolving, the strategies contractors use to generate leads will evolve with them. This includes how businesses show up across platforms like Angi, Thumbtack, Google, and AI-powered tools that connect homeowners with service professionals.

At VIIRL, our team works closely with home service companies to make sure their digital presence is optimized across the channels that generate qualified leads and booked jobs.
